West Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra handed away at a metropolis hospital within the early hours of Thursday. He was 78.
Sources on the personal hospital the place Mitra was admitted to stated he died as a result of coronary heart and age-related illnesses.
“He was admitted to the hospital a few days back after his creatinine level was found to be high during a routine check-up. He was a patient of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and had other age-related ailments,” a senior official of the hospital stated.
Mitra handed away round 1.30 am following a cardiac arrest, hospital sources stated, including that he had examined adverse for Covid.
He is survived by spouse and son.
According to a member of the family of the Congress chief, he was taken to the hospital a number of days again for normal well being check-up.
Mitra had undergone a bypass surgical procedure some years again when he was a Lok Sabha MP.

Commonly generally known as ‘Chhorada’ (youthful brother), Mitra was probably the most firebrand politicians of the 1960s and ’70s. He was baptized into the Congress by scholar politics within the late sixties.
A 3-time president of the Congress’ West Bengal unit from 1992-1996, 1996-1998 after which once more from September 2018, Mitra was a seven-term MLA from Sealdah meeting constituency.
He left the Congress in 2008 to type his political outfit Pragatisheel (Progressive) Indira Congress. He later merged his outfit with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) forward of the 2009 Lok Sabha polls and received the election on a TMC ticket from the Diamond Harbour parliamentary seat that 12 months.
Mitra give up the TMC in 2014 to rejoin the Congress.
