Supreme Court stays quota for Marathas in jobs, training

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed reservation in authorities jobs and academic establishments for candidates belonging to the Maratha group in Maharashtra and referred the matter to a Constitution Bench for closing adjudication.

However, a three-judge Bench led by Justice L Nageswara Rao mentioned admissions already made to post-graduate programs shall not be altered. Now, the matter can be positioned earlier than CJI SA Bobde for constituting an acceptable Bench. But throughout the pendency of the matter, no reservation might be given to the Maratha group underneath the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act.
