Seven die in Panipat; spurious liquor suspected

Panipat, November 5

As many as seven people died in two villages — Dhansoli and Rana Majra — in Sabki area of Panipat district under suspicious circumstances.

The police suspected spurious liquor behind the deaths. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the mortuary for postmortem examination.

The deceased have been identified as Bijender, Balbir, Islam and Satpal of Dhansoli village and Sushil, Rammehar and Shiv Kumar of Nanglapar village of Panipat district.

Other deceased have been identified as Inder and Ratna of Dhansoli and Ramesh of Jhamba village of the district.

SP Manisha Chaudhary said that a case has been registered in Sanoli police station.

Though it was suspected to be a case of consumption of spurious liquor behind the death of the people but the actual cause of death would be cleared after the postmortem examinations, she added.

A special investigation team (SIT) headed by DSP crime Rajesh Phogat has been constituted to inquire into the matter.

Teams are in the villages from where the deaths have been reported, she added.

The teams are on the job and soon we would get the source of the liquor supply, the SP maintained.
