Prayagraj, September 1
The Allahabad High Court in the present day quashed the detention of Dr Kafeel Khan below the National Security Act (NSA) and ordered his fast launch, saying his speech at Aligarh Muslim University didn’t promote hatred or violence.
The Bench stated the Aligarh district Justice of the Peace, who handed the detention order, did a “selective reading” of his speech, “ignoring its true intent”. The court docket allowed the writ petition filed by Khan’s mom Nuzhat Parveen and stated the detention order by the district Justice of the Peace is against the law.
Khan has been in jail since January after he delivered the allegedly provocative speech on the AMU in the course of the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in December final 12 months. He is lodged in Mathura jail. — PTI
