Protesting Mansa farmer who tried suicide at Badal village dies

A 55-year-old farmer from Mansa district killed himself with poison to protest controversial farm Bills at Muktsar’s Badal village on Friday. 

The farmer, recognized as Pritam Singh, died on the Civil Hospital within the night, hours after he allegedly tried suicide by consuming a toxic substance. 

Sources mentioned he had joined a protest held exterior Akali Dal’s first household Badals’ residence on Thursday evening.

The three farm Bills— Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020—have sparked protests from farmers, lots of who see it as being detrimental to their pursuits. 

Lok Sabha handed two of the three Bills—the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020’ and the ‘Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020— on Thursday. 

The Bills substitute ordinances of comparable nature that the union cupboard had accredited of in June. 

Farmers in Punjab have holding protests exterior the Badal residence from September 15. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Member of Parliament from Bathinda, resigned from the union cupboard because the protests gathered steam.  

Protests exterior the Badals’ home have led to a big deployment of police pressure within the village. The street main the Badal residence has been sealed off.
