PM to carry digital assembly with CMs on Monday as India gears up for vaccine rollout

New Delhi, January 8

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold virtual meeting with Chief Ministers on Monday to review the central government’s vaccine rollout, officials said.

India authorised two vaccines last week—one developed by Oxford-Astrazenca that will be called Covishield in India and will be manufactured by Pune-based Serum Institute of India and the second called Covaxin, developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).

The Drug Controller of India’s emergency authorisation for the second vaccine, Covaxin, has been controversial in India, especially since it’s still in Phase 3 trials. The agency said last week that it was giving it authorisation in “clinical trial mode”.

The information comes on a day when Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan announced that the government is in the process of ensuring vaccination for all and the drive will start soon.
