Panchayat polls in Himachal from January 17

The State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday announced Panchayat elections in Himachal Pradesh, polling for which will be held in three phases from January 17.

As per the schedule announced by the State Election Commission, the nominations for the Panchayat elections will be filed on December 31, January 1 and 2. The date for scrutiny has been fixed for January 4 while withdrawal of nomination forms will take place on January 6, between 10 am to 3 pm.

The polling will take place in three phases – January 17, 19 and 21, from 8 am to 4 pm.

The counting of votes will be taken up on the same day after polling in case of election for the ward members, Up Pradhan and Pradhan of Gram Panchayat.

The counting of votes for Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections will be held on January 22 at the respective block headquarters.

The counting of votes for election of ward members will continue until it is completed, said the State Election Commission, adding that the election process will be complete on January 23.

The dates for elections for Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, Zila Parishad Kaeylong and Kaza in Lahaul Spiti, Pangi in Chamba and Gram Panchayats Karjan and Soyal in Naggar, Jaban and Namhog in Anni in Kullu district will be notified later.
