Nelson Mandela’s private doctor of Indian origin passes away

Nelson Mandela’s private doctor Vejay Ramlakan, who was of Indian origin and who served him for a decade till the South African chief’s demise in 2013, handed away right here following a cardiac arrest, his household mentioned.

Ramlakan, 62, handed away on Thursday, his youthful brother Anand mentioned.

He was lauded by former colleagues in Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the army wing of the African National Congress, through the struggle in opposition to apartheid, for his dedication to serving the nation and its folks.

His funeral preparations haven’t been introduced but as some fellow veterans in MK are requesting an official state funeral for Ramlakan.

During the liberation battle in opposition to the apartheid authorities within the 1980s, Ramlakan efficiently headed up a challenge to construct up inner resistance teams in his house area of Durban.

He courted controversy in 2017 when he authored a ebook titled ‘Mandela’s Last Years’, through which he gave particulars of the enduring chief’s diseases. PTI
