Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has authorised the proposal to broaden the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in 173 border and coastal districts from the place one lakh new cadets might be inducted, an official assertion mentioned on Sunday.
The enlargement of the NCC was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on Saturday.
He mentioned the corps can be expanded in border and coastal districts in order that these areas “get trained manpower for disaster management, and youth get skill training for making a career in the armed forces”.
The Defence Ministry’s assertion mentioned Singh had authorised the NCC proposal “for a major expansion scheme”.
“More than 1,000 schools and colleges have been identified in border and coastal districts where NCC will be introduced,” it mentioned. A complete of 1 lakh cadets from 173 border and coastal districts can be inducted into the NCC, it mentioned, including that one-third of them can be women.
“As part of the expansion plan, a total of 83 NCC units will be upgraded (Army 53, Navy 20, Air Force 10) to impart training to cadets in the border and coastal areas,” the ministry famous.
The Army will present coaching and administrative help to the NCC models positioned in border areas, the Navy will present help to these in coastal areas and the Air Force will assist these near its stations.
The NCC enlargement plan might be applied in partnership with state governments, the ministry mentioned. — PTI
