Multiple stabbings in Birmingham; ‘major incident’, say UK police


London, September 6

Police within the English metropolis of Birmingham declared a “major incident” after stories that a variety of individuals had been injured in stabbings early on Sunday.

“We can confirm that at approximately 12:30 am today we were called to reports of a stabbing in Birmingham city centre,” West Midlands Police stated in a press release. “Quite a few different stabbings had been reported within the space shortly after.

“We are aware of a number of injured people, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how serious.” Emergency companies had been working collectively on the scene to make sure that those that had been injured had been receiving medical care, the assertion stated.

Cordons had been in place and there have been some highway closures within the metropolis.

The BBC stated the cordon was close to the world often known as the Gay Village within the centre of Birmingham, the place many individuals had been seated at outside tables consuming and ingesting.

“At this early stage it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident,” the police stated. Reuters
