Mansa farmer protesting at Badal village tries to commit suicide

A 55-year-old farmer from Mansa district, Pritam Singh, allegedly made a suicide bid by consuming toxic substance whereas lodging a protest in opposition to agriculture ordinances at Badal village right here on Friday morning.

He has been taken to the Civil Hospital at Badal village.

Gurbhagat Singh Bhallaiana, normal secretary, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) Muktsar district,¬†stated, “The exact cause of suicide bid is yet to be ascertained. We are checking whether he was depressed due to some debt or took this step after the ordinance was passed in Parliament. We are also contacting his family.”

He had come to affix the protesters final night time, sources stated.

Notably, the farmers are lodging six-day lengthy protest near the Badals’ residence from September 15.

A lot of cops have been deployed within the village and highway to the Badals’ residence sealed by placing up barricades.
