Justice NV Ramana appointed subsequent Chief Justice of India

President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed Justice NV Ramana as the next Chief Justice of India.

A notification with regard to the warrant of appointment to this effect was issued.

Justice Ramana will take oath as the 48th CJI on April 24 and will have a tenure of around 16 months.

He will replace the current CJI SA Bobde who is due to demit office on April 23.

Justice Ramana – who was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2014 – will retire on August 26, 2022.
