Chandigarh, September 20

The Haryana Police immediately used water cannons to disperse farmers and Indian Youth Congress (IYC) activists who tried to enter the state from Punjab on the Chandigarh-Ambala freeway.

As a part of their tractor march to Delhi, Congress activists, led by PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar and IYC president Srinivas BV, tried to interrupt the barrier close to Sadopur village by allegedly throwing stones at cops, following which drive was used to cease them.

Haryana farmers, in the meantime, blocked main roads, together with Panchkula-Yamunanagar, Jind-Delhi and Ambala-Roorkee highways. The farmers had been joined by arhtiyas and farm labourers.

Gurnam Singh Charuni, Bharatiya Kisan Union state chief, claimed the protest was peaceable regardless of “provocation” by the police. — TNS
