GC Murmu resigns as Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor

Girish Chandra Murmu on Wednesday resigned as Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, sources stated.

Murmu, a 1985-batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, was appointed as the primary L-G of Jammu and Kashmir final October after the formation of the brand new Union Territory beneath the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

The two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh got here into existence on October 31 after the Narendra Modi authorities abrogated provisions of Article 370 that granted a particular standing to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two UTs.
