The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to release former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti from detention.
“Ms. Mehbooba Mufti being released,” Rohit Kansal, principal secretary, power and information, Jammu and Kashmir, said in a tweet on Tuesday.
Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was put under detention on the eve of abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 on August 5 last year.
Reacting to the news of the former CM’s release, her daughter Iltija Mufti tweeted: “As Ms Mufti’s illegal detention finally comes to an end, Id like to thank everybody who supported me in these tough times. I owe a debt of gratitude to you all. This is Iltija signing off. May allah protect you”.
