The police on Tuesday arrested three extra individuals for the killing of eight policemen in an ambush at a village close to Kanpur, amid a simmering controversy over gangster Vikas Dubey’s alleged hyperlinks with police and politicians.

The police appointed an Inspector General (IG) to probe into an unverified letter that surfaced on social media, purportedly written weeks earlier than his dying by DSP Devendra Mishra. It had alleged hyperlinks between the Chaubeypur station officer and the gangster.
Also, Inspector General (Civil Defence) Amitabh Thakur requested the UP police chief to probe the then Kanpur SSP, Anant Deo, now a DIG, to whom the purported letter was despatched.
The police mentioned there was no hint of the letter of their information, however they’d proceed to research the matter.
