In a shocking incident, a man allegedly threw his three children into augmentation canal near Kulvehri village late last night after he had a petty fight with his wife.
The children were identified as Shiv (8), Jhanvi (5), and Dev (3), said the residents.
Police have started a rescue operation, but the children are yet to be traced in water.
Accused identified as Sushil Kumar, is a resident of Nalipar village. He was arrested and has confessed to the crime.
The residents of Nalipar village said that Sushil has a juice cart. He was alcoholic, which was the reason of arguments between him and his wife Baby.
On Monday, too, both the husband and wife had a brawl over his addiction, following which he took the children on a bike.
The neighbors chased him, but failed. On hearing the children crying near canal, farmers working in the fields also tried to stop him, but he threw them into the canal, said the residents.
After committing the crime, he came home and informed the family members about the crime before running away.
Residents of the nearby villages are also helping the police in tracing the children.
Inspector Munish Kumar, SHO Kunjpura, said that they were tracing the children with the help of divers.
“We have launched a rescue operation to trace the children. Apart from taking help of divers, we have requested for reducing the water level to the department,” he added.
After the incident, a pall of gloom prevailed at their home and the grandparents are inconsolable.
“I never imagined he would kill his own children in this brutal manner,” said the grandfather with a heavy heart.
He demanded death penalty for his son.
