BPL subsidy: Himachal Pradesh orders probe

The HP Government has ordered an inquiry into alleged irregularities within the collection of BPL households for foodgrain subsidy after names of gazetted officers, docs and professors have been discovered on an inventory of 125 beneficiaries not too long ago.

Official sources informed The Tribune that the federal government had sought particulars from deputy commissioners throughout the state on this regard and was mulling handy over the matter to the state Vigilance. The authorities is within the means of issuing instructions to the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department to make sure that the factors for choosing BPL households was strictly adhered to.

Talking to The Tribune, a Block Development Officer admitted that many gram sabhas weren’t following the laid down standards and advised that BDOs and SDMs be given the authority to delete “inelegible” picks.
