Rohtak, October 11
The CM Flying Squad seized around 40,000 litre extra neutral alcohol (ENA) from a dhaba on the Rohtak-Gohana road near Kanhi village here in the wee hours of Sunday.
The ENA was brought here from NV Distillery, Rajpura (Punjab), and was to be supplied to various places in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for allegedly making sub-standard liquor.
Several persons, including two dhaba owner brothers had been arrested while interrogation was under way to find out those involved in the racket. The team also recovered Rs 1.5 lakh from their possession, said DSP Ajit Singh, head of the squad.
“We got information that ENA is being stored at a dhaba and is supplied to different places from after filling it in small containers. Later, the ENA is used in making sub-standard liquor. Acting on the tip-off, we along with officials of police and Excise department carried out a raid at Bhole ka Dhaba around 2 am on Sunday and found two tankers stationed there,” said the DSP.
He maintained one of the tankers was loaded with the ENA and 17 labourers were filling the ENA in small containers, while the second one was already emptied. After the labourers said they were forced to do so, labour inspector Dilawar Singh was called on the spot. The dhaba owners—Sandeep alias Pillu and his brother Kuldeep of Rukhi village—were present there, he said, adding that the ENA was a inflammable product hence its storage in large quantity was a crime in the eyes of law.
“On interrogation, the brothers said they also used to pilfer ENA from distilleries in Bhopal, Karnal and Ambala besides Punjab and supplied it to different places by filling it to plastic containers. The illegal trade was being run for the past couple of years. The dhaba owners used to bring ENA to Rohtak in the night and also supply it under the cover of darkness,” said sources.
Paramjit Singh, in-charge, Police Post, Ghillour, said a case under Sections 273, 285, 420, 467, 468, 471 of the IPC besides the Excise and Labour Act has been registered against the dhaba owners and some others on the complaint of Sub inspector Satpal and Excise Inspector Umesh.
