A health care provider was allegedly assaulted on Wednesday by the son of a COVID-19 affected person who died at a hospital in Latur metropolis in Maharashtra.
The incident came about round 7 am at Alpha Superspeciality Hospital right here, the police mentioned.
The 35-year-old assailant—title not disclosed—was a resident of Udgir, the police mentioned.
His 60-year-old mom had been admitted to the hospital on July 25 after she examined optimistic for coronavirus, mentioned a police officer.
The lady, who was additionally affected by co-morbidities—present persistent illnesses—died early on Wednesday morning.
When Dr Dinesh Varma, who had earlier spoken to her family members about her severe situation, arrived on the hospital, her son and three different family members had a heated argument with him over the lady’s dying.
The son immediately picked up a pointy weapon and stabbed Varma within the chest, neck and on the hand, the official mentioned.
Varma, who was significantly injured, was admitted to a different hospital and was present process therapy.
The assailant was arrested quickly, the police official mentioned.
The native department of the Indian Medical Association condemned the incident and introduced that Out Patient Departments (OPDs) within the district would stay closed for a day in protest.
It demanded round the clock police safety to medical doctors. PTI
