TikTok to go away Hong Kong as safety legislation raises worries

TikTok mentioned Tuesday it’ll cease operations in Hong Kong after town enacted a sweeping nationwide safety legislation final week.

The firm mentioned in a press release that it had determined to halt operations “in light of recent events.” TikTok’s departure from Hong Kong comes as numerous social media platforms and messaging apps together with Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google and Twitter balk at the potential for offering person information to Hong Kong authorities.

The social media corporations say they’re assessing the ramifications of the nationwide safety legislation. —AP
