Vinesh Phogat pulls out of nationwide camp citing COVID-19 scare

Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat will proceed to coach at her residence in Bhiwani as she has refused to attend the nationwide camp, ranging from September 1 in Lucknow.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) not too long ago received a inexperienced sign from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to carry nationwide camp from subsequent month, even if many wrestlers had been ‘in opposition to it’. 

Speaking to IANS, Vinesh mentioned she has requested the federation to let her prepare alone and be exempted from the camp.

“Yes, I am not going to attend the camp. I have informed the federation about it, and they have given me the permission (so far),” laughed Vinesh.

“Coronavirus cases are rising and I don’t want to take any risk. So, I thought of giving camp a skip for the time being,” added the Tokyo-bound wrestler. 

Meanwhile, Bajrang Punia and Pooja Dhanda have confirmed their participation.

A complete of 26 wrestlers in eight weight classes—5 in freestyle and three in Greco Roman—will participate within the month-long camp. 

The girls’s camp will probably be held in Lucknow with 15 wrestlers together with Pooja, Sakshi Malik and Divya Kakran.

And the boys’s camp will probably be held in Sonepat the place Bajrang and Narsingh Yadav will probably be seen in motion. Sushil Kumar will prepare at his personal centre – Chhatrasal stadium within the nationwide capital.

According to SAI protocols, athletes, coaches and help workers becoming a member of the camp will probably be given necessary COVID-19 take a look at upon arrival on the camp, and they’re going to resume coaching after a 14-day quarantine. IANS
