Punjab Kings fell to an embarrassing loss to Chennai Super Kings in the eighth match of IPL-14 here tonight, losing by six wickets with 26 balls to spare after crawling to 106/8. Chennai overhauled Punjab’s total in 15.4 overs.
Chasing only 107 for victory, Chennai lost an early wicket. However, Faf du Plessis (36 not out off 33 balls) and Moeen Ali (46 off 31) played with caution and aggression to add 76 runs in 7.3 overs. Chennai had a minor hiccup close to the target, losing three wickets for nine runs in 12 balls. However, the Punjab total was too small to cause Chennai real trouble.
Earlier, Deepak Chahar returned with impressive figures of 4/13 as Chennai dished out a clinical bowling and fielding display to restrict Punjab to a below-par score. — TNS, agencies
