CHENNAI, April 14
Sunrisers Hyderabad, who seemed to be cruising towards victory when they needed only 54 runs off 41 balls, lost their way in the chase, giving away eight wickets for 46 runs to lose to Royal Challengers Bangalore by six runs in their IPL match here. Chasing RCB’s 149, SRH ended up with 143/9.
With David Warner reaching 54 off 36 balls, having hit seven fours and a six, and adding 83 runs with Manish Pandey (38 off 39), SRH were on target at 96/1.
However, they then slumped from 96/1 in the 14th over to 130/7 in the space of 31 balls. Shahbaz Ahmed picked up 3/7 off two overs, while Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel took two wickets each for RCB.
Maxwell’s rescue act
Earlier, RCB managed to reach a modest 149 only after Glenn Maxwell hit a 41-ball 59. The SRH bowlers, led by West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder and star spinner Rashid Khan put up a superlative show and picked up wickets at regular intervals. — TNS, agencies
