Giving a scare to the organisers of the ISSF World Cup, a shooter who had tested positive for Covid and was subsequently discharged by the hospital showed up at the Karni Singh Range, the tournament venue.

Vijayveer-Tejaswini shoot gold

Vijayveer Sidhu and Tejaswini Sawant added another gold to India’s tally when they won the 25m Rapid Fire pistol mixed team competition. They beat compatriots Gurpreet Singh and Abhidnya Ashok Patil 9-1. In the trap mixed event, Kynan Chenai and Shreyasi Singh lost the bronze medal play-off 35-38 to the Turkish pair of Yavuz Ilnam and Safiye Sariturk.

He was asked to leave immediately after being spotted in the finals hall. The pistol shooter in question was among four Indian shooters who were quarantined initially at the team hotel.

He was then shifted to a hospital in Ghaziabad. After being discharged, he decided to come to the venue to watch the competition. This breach of Covid-19 protocol was brought to the notice of NRAI president Raninder Singh, who directed that the shooter be removed from the premises.

“Patients who are hospitalised are advised to stay home for a period of time. This shooter was at the range within a day or two after getting discharged,” a source in know of the development said.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) was irked that the shooter came to the range despite being denied permission for it. He has been replaced in the team competition.
