Indian golfer SSP Chawrasia had a disappointing outing after two good days, as he shot a 4-over 76 to drop to tied-51st from tied-18th at the Scottish Championship. Shubhankar Sharma, 4-under through 13 holes, shot a 2-under 70. He rose to tied-43 at 3-under. Chawrasia was 2-under. Matt Wallace carded a bogey-free 66 to open up a three-shot lead heading into the final round.
ISL: Jeje Lalpekhlua joins East Bengal
SC East Bengal today announced the signing of national team striker Jeje Lalphekhlua ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League season. The 29-year-old Jeje has played more than 50 matches for India since making his debut in 2011. He was a free agent after leaving Chennaiyin FC earlier this year.
Zverev wins year’s first title; fourth for Rublev
Top seed Alexander Zverev bagged his first ATP crown of the year after beating Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3 6-3 to win the Cologne Indoors title. Victory gave Zverev his 12th ATP title and his third on home soil after he won the Munich Open in 2017 and 2018. Meanwhile, Russian third seed Andrey Rublev won his fourth ATP Tour title of the year when he beat Croatia’s Borna Coric 7-6(5) 6-4 to lift the St Petersburg Open trophy.
La Liga: Barca, Real lose as Atletico win
Barcelona and Real Madrid lost for the first time this season against modest Spanish league opposition. Barcelona had their first defeat under Ronald Koeman when they lost 1-0 at Getafe, right after Madrid were beaten 1-0 at home by recently-promoted Cadiz. Sevilla also lost, leaving Atletico Madrid, who beat Celta Vigo 2-0, as the only one of Spain’s top teams to celebrate a victory.
Good day for City, United as Liverpool frustrated
Liverpool were left frustrated after a 2-2 draw at Everton in the Merseyside derby with VAR ruling out a potential winner from Jordan Henderson in stoppage time and key defender Virgil van Dijk suffering a knee injury. Raheem Sterling grabbed the winner as Manchester City beat Arsenal 1-0 and a late equaliser earned Southampton a 3-3 draw away to Chelsea. Manchester United recovered from an early own goal to beat Newcastle United 4-1.
