Ahmedabad, March 20
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli powered India to a 36-run triumph in the fifth and final T20 International here tonight, the hosts winning the series 3-2.
Set a massive target of 225 for victory, England suffered a middle-order slump and slipped from 130/1 to 165/6 and never recovered, eventually losing by a decisive margin.
England seemed to be cruising towards the target as Jos Buttler (52 off 34) and Dawid Malan (68 off 46) added 130 for the second wicket at a run-rate of over 10 runs an over. However, Buttler’s wicket led to a collapse as Jonny Bairstow (7), Malan, captain Eoin Morgan (1) and Ben Stokes (14) too fell in quick succession and England never recovered.
Rohit was back at his best with a sensational 64 off 34 balls while captain Kohli made 80 off 52 balls to power 224/2.
Barring Stokes and Adil Rashid, the English bowlers leaked more than 10 runs per over, Chris Jordan (0/57) being the most expensive. Rohit hit five sixers. — TNS, agencies
