Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi immediately introduced that Punjab’s sportspersons who win the nationwide lifetime achievement award shall be mechanically eligible for the state’s highest sporting honour, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award.
He made the announcement after honouring the Punjab sportspersons who have been not too long ago embellished with the nationwide sports activities awards. Hockey star Akashdeep Singh received the Arjuna Award, whereas Kuldeep Singh Bhullar (athletics), Ajit Singh (hockey), Manpreet Singh (kabaddi), Manjit Singh (rowing), Sukhwinder Singh (soccer) and Lakha Singh (boxing) got the Major Dhyan Chand Award. Colonel Sarfaraz Singh was given the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.

Sodhi mentioned the sports activities coverage of 2018 will now cowl winners of all nationwide sports activities awards, together with Dhyan Chand and Dronacharya Awards.
