Neymar stretchered off injured as PSG lose to Lyon

Paris: Neymar was taken off on a stretcher deep into stoppage time as defending champions Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-0 at home to Lyon to drop to third place in the French league. Neymar hurt his left ankle in the seventh minute of injury time at Parc des Princes on Sunday following a heavy tackle from Thiago Mendes, who was then red carded. Lyon held on for 10 minutes of stoppage time to extend their unbeaten run to 11 games and throw the title race wide open. PSG’s fourth defeat of the season sent Lille top. Lyon are now second on goal difference, while PSG are one point behind in third spot. Meanwhile, the initial assessment of Neymar’s left ankle injury is “reassuring”, PSG said on Monday. AP

Leicester close in as Spurs, Liverpool held

LONDON: Joint-leaders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool both dropped points on a busy day of Premier League action on Sunday as Leicester City and Southampton narrowed the gap in what is shaping up to be one of the most open title races for years. Arsenal look extremely unlikely to be part of it, however, as they lost 1-0 at home to Burnley — a fourth successive home league defeat for the first time since 1959 leaving the Gunners languishing down in 15th spot. After Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Liverpool were held 1-1 by Fulham. Leicester beat Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0, while Southampton eased to a 3-0 win over Sheffield United. Tottenham and Liverpool are both on 25 points from 12 games above Leicester on 24, Southampton on 23, Chelsea on 22. Reuters
