NADA to be impartial of govt management

New Delhi: The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) is edging closer to becoming an independent, completely autonomous body. NADA will send a draft of necessary changes for this to the Sports Ministry soon. The matter was discussed today during NADA’s governing body meeting, chaired by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. NADA has been working towards becoming independent of government control after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) came out with a guide on operational independence of national anti-doping organisations. Article 20.50.1 of WADA states that national and-doping organisations shall “be independent in their operational decisions and activities from sport and government”. “The body agreed that we must bring out legislation in this regard and we will send a draft to the Ministry,” NADA director general Navin Agarwal told The Tribune.
