Defending champions Spain, England and Germany had been on Friday named for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in India subsequent 12 months on the idea of their rankings after the European qualifying event was cancelled attributable to COVID-19 pandemic.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) stated in a media assertion that the European governing physique UEFA has “confirmed that England, Germany and Spain will represent Europe in the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2021”.
The three nations had been chosen after the UEFA U-17 Women’s Championship was cancelled as a result of pandemic.
“The final round of UEFA U-17 Women’s Championship has been cancelled because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Three teams with the highest coefficient ranking have been confirmed as the participants in the World Cup,” the assertion stated.
Spain, England and Germany will now be part of hosts India, North Korea, Japan and New Zealand, who’ve already certified for the event.
Spain had gained the 2018 version of the event after beating Mexico 2-1 within the ultimate in Uruguay.
The event was initially scheduled for October-November this 12 months however was pushed to 2021 (February 17 to March 7) as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. The ultimate shall be performed on the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. PTI
