New Delhi: Legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has undergone a bypass surgery at a city hospital after he complained of heart problems and he is recovering well. The 74-year-old underwent the procedure a few days back and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.

Deepak enters quarters of Strandja Memorial

New Delhi: Deepak Kumar (52kg) advanced to the quarterfinals with a facile win as India’s boxers got off to a mixed start at the 72nd Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria. Deepak defeated Kazakhstan’s Olzhas Bainiyazov 5-0 in his opening bout to make the last-eight stage. Naveen Kumar (91kg) defeated American Darius Fulghum in a close fight that ended 3-2 in his favour. In the women’s category, Jyoti (51kg) got the better of Ukraine’s Tetiana Kob 4-1. However, Shashi Chopra (60kg), Lalita (69kg) and Sakshi (57kg) lost their opening bouts to bow out of the competition.

Football team to play friendlies in March

New Delhi: The Indian men’s team will play two international friendlies — against Oman on March 25 and United Arab Emirates on March 29 — the All India Football Federation said. Both the matches will be held in Dubai.

Kolkata: Mason Robertson’s brace helped a dominant Real Kashmir FC beat Aizawl FC 3-1 and jump to the top of the I-League table.
