Boxer Simranjit will get her due, 6 months after announcement

Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the mom of boxer Simranjit Kaur at Ludhiana. This prize was introduced by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh after a gathering with the boxer.

The reward comes simply days after Simranjit had raised the problem that she was but to get the “promised” cash. “I don’t know much about their (government) criteria. I was promised Rs 5 lakh also but who cares,” Simranjit had mentioned. “I was also promised a job in the Punjab Government when I met the Chief Minister in March.”

Sodhi additionally introduced that the whole value for Simranjit’s preparations for the Olympics could be borne by the state authorities. Simranjit, from Chakar village in Ludhiana district, gained a bronze medal within the Junior World Championships in 2013, a bronze medal within the Senior World Championships in 2018 and a silver medal on the Asian Boxing Championships in 2019.
