Bhagat, Kadam in semis of para-badminton match

Dubai: World No. 1 Pramod Bhagat and No. 5 Sukant Kadam sailed into the semifinals of the Dubai para-badminton tournament after winning their respective matches here. In the SL3 category, Bhagat showed why he is top ranked with a strong performance against Indonesian Ukun Rukaendi, taking 44 minutes to emerge 21-16 21-13 winner. Bhagat will play Muhammad Huzairi Abdul Malek of Malaysia in the semifinals. Bhagat has partnered Manoj Sarkar (SL4) in the men’s doubles and will play against Mohammad Arwaz Ansari and Deep Ranjan Bisoyee in the semifinals. He is also in the mixed doubles quarterfinals with Palak Kohli. Kadam, in SL4 category, stormed into the semifinals with a 21-17 21-8 win over Muhammad Norhilmie Mohd Zainudin from Malaysia. Kadam will be playing Marcel Adam of Germany in his last-four clash.

Sri Lanka trail West Indies by 347 after Day 4

North Point (Antigua): West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite fell short of a second century but helped his team to a commanding position after the fourth day of the second Test against Sri Lanka on Thursday. Brathwaite followed his 126 in the West Indies’ first innings of 354 with 85 runs. Half-centuries by Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder allowed Brathwaite to declare his team’s second innings at 280/4, a lead of 376. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne (11) and Lahiru Thirimanne (17) guided Sri Lanka through nine overs to 29/0 at stumps when they still trailed by 347.
