India were tottering at 31 for 9 in their second innings on the third day of the day-night Test match on Saturday as the Australian seamers were all over them at the Adelaide Oval.
Beginning the third day at 9 for 1, they lost wickets in a heap as Australian seamers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins did most of the damage.
India has a slender lead of 53 runs in the first innings.
On Friday, India had lost operner Prithvi Shaw cheaply and nitghtwatchman Jasprit Bumrah was at the wicket with opener Mayank Aggarwal at stumps.
