96% athletes report at SAI centres

New Delhi: Ninety-six per cent athletes who are preparing for the future Olympics have reported back at various centres of excellence of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Athletes reporting back to training at the SAI centres are being provided with air and train tickets, and some of them will be allowed to join after Diwali due to the restrictions related to Covid-19. The SAI has made transport arrangements for the athletes travelling to their respective national centre of excellence (NCOE). “Athletes who have to travel beyond 500 km are provided with an air ticket while those who are stationed less than 500 km may travel by train in 3rd AC,” SAI said. With next year’s Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics in mind, a vast majority of athletes have resumed training after months of inactivity due to the pandemic. Once inside the bio-secure bubble, trainees will not be allowed to leave camps; therefore, the athletes were given the option of joining on November 1, or after Diwali. TNS, agencies
