Lucknow, March 24
Shafali Verma was not selected in the Indian women’s team for the One-day series against South Africa, much to the disappointments of fans who were keen to watch her in action after one full year.
However, the 17-year-old did not take her omission to heart and made it count when she got the opportunity in the T20I series. She was named Player of the Series after knocks of 23, 47 and 60. In her 60 off 30 balls in the last match, 58 of her runs came off boundaries (5 sixes, 7 fours).
Focus on getting better
Asked if she was disappointment with her exclusion from the ODI team, she said she thought that she needs to work on something in her game. “When I didn’t get a call-up for the ODIs I thought there might still be some weakness in my game that I need to address. But I didn’t go and ask anybody about it, neither the captain nor the coach, about my omission,” the Haryana teenager said. — TNS
