Muzaffarnagar, July 12
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has filed a cost sheet in opposition to 5 Railway officers in reference to the Kalinga Utkal Express accident of August 2017 wherein 23 individuals have been killed and over 100 injured, officers mentioned on Sunday.
The cost sheet was filed in a courtroom right here in opposition to the then Senior Section Engineer Inderjit Singh, the then Junior Engineer Pradeep Kumar, the then Station Master Prakash Chand, the then Section Controller P V Taneja and hammer man Jitendra underneath sections 304A (inflicting dying by negligence), 147, 337, 338, 427 and 279 of the Indian Penal Code, they mentioned.
Sources mentioned departmental motion was earlier taken in opposition to these officers. Pradeep Kumar was dismissed from service. PV Taneja and Prakash Chand have been compulsorily retired, and a warning was issued to Inderjit Singh, they added.
GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chandra instructed PTI that an investigation discovered these officers liable for the accident.
The Kalinga Utkal Express was on its manner from Puri (Odisha) to Haridwar(Uttarakhand) when 14 coaches of the prepare derailed at Khatauli within the district on August 19, 2017, killing 23 individuals.
The injured passengers have been admitted to varied hospitals in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar.
The then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had ordered an inquiry and introduced Rs 3.5 lakh compensation to the kin of the lifeless, Rs 50,000 to the grievously injured and Rs 25,000 to these with minor accidents. PTI
