Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Rattan Lal Kataria condemned the acts of violence by “rioters” in Delhi on the pretext of “Kisan Parade” on Republic Day and called for strict action against them.
Questioning the “so called” farmers’ leaders who had assured that the parade would be peaceful, Kataria pointed out their conspicuous absence from the scene of violence.
Dubbing them as fictitious farmers’ leaders, Kataria said the miscreants not only flouted the road-routes for the parade prescribed by the police, but also indulged in wanton violence against the personnel and damaged their vehicles and public properties.
He appealed to the public not to be misled and misguided by these “fly-by-night” and spurious farmers’ leaders in resorting to violence and damaging of public properties.
“I categorically condemn the act of hooliganism and trifling with country’s image and its democracy,” Kataria said in a strongly worded statement.
He said the police and administration handled the challenging situation and grave provocation hurled by the miscreants with utmost restraint and patience.
“All through the police tried to reason with the rioters and dissuade them against acts of violence,” said Kataria.
“The BJP-led government at the Centre is pro-farmer, and would remain so even in the future.”
The Narendra Modi-led government is committed to the welfare and progress of farmers. Its firm stand is that all issues can be resolved through talks, he added.
