Three extra cops suspended over Kanpur shootout

Kanpur/Lucknow, July 6

The UP police have suspended three extra cops, suspecting that they tipped off Vikas Dubey whose gang members killed eight policemen in an ambush at a village close to Kanpur final week. Those suspended are Sub-Inspectors Kunwarpal and Krishna Kumar Sharma and Constable Rajiv.

The police additionally elevated the reward for Dubey’s arrest to Rs 2.5 lakh.

DGP HC Awasthy mentioned raids have been being performed to trace down the gangster. The police had earlier suspended Vinay Tiwari, station officer of the Chaubeypur station. Kanpur SSP Dinesh Kumar mentioned a preliminary inquiry had been initiated in opposition to the suspended cops. An FIR could be lodged if the probe confirms their involvement, the SP (Rural) mentioned. — PTI
