A Telangana Tehsildar, Balraju Nagaraju, caught by the State Anti-Corruption Bureau while allegedly accepting Rs 1.10 crore as bribe and subsequently dismissed from service, was found hanging from the window grill in central prison on Wednesday.

Sources said the 47-year-old committed suicide. He was found hanging from a window grill in his barrack in Chanchalguda central prison. He used the towel to hang himself, they said.

Upon detection, he was rushed to the hospital where he died, said a senior Prison official.

The ACB had caught the revenue official red handed and the incident made headlines across the country. Recently, the ACB got three-days remand of the Tehsildar for further investigation and he was lodged in the central prison.

Known as the Keesara Tehsildar Balaraju Nagaraju’s bribery case, names of two senior Revenue Department officials had cropped up during the ACB probe. The two officials hold top position in Medchal district and the probe was getting more complex.

Nagaraju was caught on August 14 along with two realtors Srinath Yadav and K Anji Reddy. He demanded the bribe for allegedly clearing an issue pertaining to 28-acre land.
