Several senior BJP leaders were put under house detention by the Telangana Police in Hyderabad on Tuesday to prevent them from moving to the chief minister’s residence to stage a dharna to protest police interference in November 3 Dubbak assembly bypoll.
Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar demanded transfer of Siddipet Commissioner of Police Joel Davis for allegedly preventing him for going for campaigning. Kumar said “Fearing defeat the TRS party is planning to get the polls postponed. I and other leaders were prevented from going to Dubbak (on Monday night). Despite me being an MP, the Siddipet Commissioner shoved me. We demand his immediate transfer.”
Police put state BJP vice president D.K. Aruna, member of Telangana Legislative Council Ramachandra Rao, party’s lone MLA Raja Singh, Motkupalli Narasimhulu and others under house arrest. Security personnel were deployed at the residence of Aruna to prevent her from leaving the residence.
Rao alleged that a worried Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government planted money at the residence of a relative of BJP candidate M. Raghunandan Rao and then sent the Siddipet tehsildar and executive magistrate along with the police to seize Rs 18.67 lakh.
The police, however, had a different narration of the incident saying that the police personnel accompanying the raiding party were attacked by the BJP workers. The incident triggered tension in the town following which the police prevented Bandi Sanjay from entering Siddipet and forcibly sent him back to Karimnagar.
Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy rushed to the town on Monday night and called on a BJP worker who was allegedly injured in the incident during the cash seizure.
The leaders accused the police of manhandling their leaders and demanded the suspension of the police commissioner and registration of criminal case against him. BJP sources said Bandi Sanjay spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and apprised him of the incidents in Siddipet.
