Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting Union Budget 2021-22 in Parliament today, said the four Labour Codes would be implemented, signalling the Centre’s resolve to go ahead with the labour law reforms.
Sitharaman said minimum wages would apply to all categories of workers and they would all be covered by the Employees State Insurance Corporation. Women would be allowed to work in all categories and also in the night shifts with adequate protection.
She proposed to launch a portal that would collect relevant information on gig, building and construction workers to help formulate health, housing, skill, insurance, credit, and food schemes for them. The Budget proposes allocation of Rs 13,30,650 crore for fiscal year 2021-22. —TNS
