New Delhi, January 2
India’s Covid vaccine development effort suffered the first hit today when Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said he would not take the “BJP vaccine”.
“How can I trust the vaccine, which will be used for vaccination by the BJP? We cannot get vaccinated by the BJP’s vaccine. When our party comes to power in Uttar Pradesh after the 2022 elections, everybody will get the vaccine free,” Yadav said today, inviting sharp reactions across social media spaces with experts questioning the SP leader for doubting scientists.
Hours later, Yadav tweeted that he had full faith in scientists but not in the “taali and thali wali” unscientific thinking of the BJP.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya described Yadav’s remarks as an “insult to doctors and scientists” . Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, meanwhile, said the Centre will not compromise on any protocol regarding vaccine approval. — TNS
