Railways to finish colonial-era khalasi system, says no to recent appointments

New Delhi, August 7

The Railways is about to finish a colonial-era apply of appointing khalasis or ‘bungalow peons’ who labored on the residences of senior officers, following an order from the Railway Board barring any new appointment to the put up.

In an order issued on August 6, the Railway Board has stated the problem relating to phone attendant-cum-dak khalasis (TADKs) is underneath assessment.

“The challenge relating to the appointment of TADK is underneath assessment in Railway Board. It has, due to this fact, been determined that any appointment of recent substitutes as TADK mustn’t both be processed or made with fast impact.

“Further, all cases approved for such appointments since July 1, 2020 may be reviewed and position advised to Board. This may be complied with strictly in all Railway establishments,” the order stated. PTI
