Railways high official held in Rs1-cr bribery case

New Delhi, January 17

The CBI today registered a case against a number of North Eastern Frontier Railways (NFR) officers, including its Chief Administrative Officer Mahendra Singh Chauhan, and others in an alleged Rs 1-crore bribery case and carried out searches at 21 locations.

A senior CBI official said the agency took Chauhan, a 1985-batch IRES officer, into custody when he was allegedly receiving the bribe from a contractor to extend favours in granting contracts of projects of the NFR. Chauhan is posted at the NFR headquarters in Maligaon in Assam, he said. — TNS
