Rahul Gandhi flays assault on Dalits in MP’s Guna

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Thursday condemned the assault on Dalits by policemen in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district, saying “our fight is against this injustice”.

A purported video of the incident on social media confirmed the police hitting a Dalit man mercilessly with batons and his spouse and others attempting to save lots of him.

Sharing the video of the assault on Twitter, Gandhi mentioned: “Our fight is against this mindset and injustice.”

The officers had mentioned {that a} Dalit couple, who had been being faraway from a plot of presidency land allotted for a school in Guna metropolis, consumed pesticide in protest on Tuesday.

“The (farm) land was reserved for a government model college. Rajkumar Ahirwar (38) and his wife Savitri (35) were working on the land. Gabbu Pardi, who had encroached on the land, had given them work,” District Collector S Vishwanathan had mentioned.

When officers requested them to vacate the sphere, they protested and drank pesticide on the behest of those that had encroached on the land, he had claimed.

The two additionally refused to go to the hospital so the police had to make use of drive to take them to hospital, the collector had claimed.

Taking a critical view of the incident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered the switch of the collector and Superintendent of Police. PTI
