Protest in opposition to teenager’s ‘rape, homicide’ in Bengal turns violent; mob burns autos


Raiganj, July 20

The suspected rape and subsequent homicide of a teenaged woman in North Dinajpur district on Sunday triggered protests within the space with a mob blockading National Highway 31 and setting ablaze authorities buses and police autos, demanding the arrest of the culprits, law enforcement officials mentioned right here.

The woman was allegedly kidnapped after she went out of her home at Sonapur village close to Siliguri on Sunday morning to reply nature’s name. 

She was discovered lifeless after just a few hours, and the villagers alleged that she was raped earlier than being murdered.

As police personnel had been making an attempt to raise the blockade, the mob set three North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) buses on hearth and likewise set ablaze three police vans, the officers mentioned.

Police reinforcements, together with Rapid Action Force, had been introduced in to raise the blockade and take away the protesters, the officers mentioned. PTI
