President Ram Nath Kovind honoured 202 freedom fighters throughout the nation on Sunday on the event of the 78th anniversary of Quit India Day, an announcement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan mentioned.

Every yr, the president hosts an “At Home” reception on the Rashtrapati Bhavan on the anniversary of the Quit India Movement to honour freedom fighters, the assertion mentioned.

This yr, the “At Home” reception couldn’t be organised in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, it added.

“Therefore, state/UT governments have been requested to honour and felicitate freedom fighters with a shawl and angavastram by District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Sub Divisional Magistrate at their homes on behalf of the President,” the assertion mentioned.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan has offered the “angavastram” and shawls to the states and Union territories by way of their resident commissioners, it mentioned.
