The Supreme Court on Tuesday initiated suo motu contempt of court docket proceedings in opposition to lawyer Prashant Bhushan and Twitter India for his tweets allegedly scandalising the judiciary.
The contempt case is listed for listening to on July 22 earlier than a three-judge Bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra.
Recently Bhushan had tweeted, “The CJI rides a Rs 50 lakh motorcycle belonging to a BJP leader at Raj Bhavan Nagpur, without a mask or helmet, at a time when he keeps the SC in lockdown mode denying citizens their fundamental right to access justice.”
But it was not instantly clear if Bhushan’s tweet in regards to the CJI was the rationale behind the contempt proceedings or the event associated to one thing else.

Petitioner Saurabh Jain contended that about Rs 1,900 crore was misplaced every single day as public sector banks weren’t invoking private financial institution ensures furnished by huge corporates.
On behalf of Jain, senior counsel Manan Kumar Mishra stated the Finance Ministry itself has, by a round, directed private ensures issued by promoters/managerial personnel to be invoked.
“Despite this circular, public sector undertakings continue not to invoke such guarantees resulting in huge loss not only to the public exchequer, but also to the common man,” he submitted.
